Marigold & Indigo Camp Shirt Natural Dye
Marigold & Indigo Camp Shirt Natural Dye
This short sleeve camp collar is made from a 6 oz naturally dyed fabric hand-woven on a pedal loom in the community of San Sebastian Rio de Ondo, Oaxaca. They’re compromised of nearly 400 families who live and work in indigenous villages around the area. Each community specializes in a different process of making the fabrics from farming their own cotton, spinning it into thread and naturally dyeing it prior to weaving the fabrics.
The dyes used are Pericon [Wild Marigold] by using the stems, leaves and flowers and boiling them in big baths over several hours to extract the yellow dye. Once the yellow dye is achieved, the thread is added into an Añil [Indigo] bath to achieve the green dye.
